Minerals and Enzymes Work Together
Minerals and enzymes make a powerful team in terms of a person’s health and beauty. Minerals are found in plants and plants develop mineral content from the soil in which they are grown in, which is why organic sourced produce is imperative to your health due to its high mineral contents. If we eat a diet full of greens, not only do we receive a wide spectrum of minerals that are essential to our beauty, but we also receive the vitamins and amino acids that are imperative to building muscle and bone mass.
Minerals assimilate into a person’s body with the support of enzymes which help us digest our food and absorb nutrients through the digestion process. Enzymes are substances that occur naturally in all living things, such as the human body, plants and animals, which are critical to life. Enzymes are the catalyst for chemical reactions, such as metabolism, repairing DNA, repairing and preventing wrinkles, skin revitalization, warding off disease, and contributing to smooth youthful skin. Importantly, though, as we age the enzyme activities in our bodies start to decrease and to preserve the remaining enzymes we must feed our bodies with the enzymes found in raw plants.
Recommended Digestion Tips
As we age, it is so important to get the natural enzymes through raw foods for our body to use (and cooking many enzyme-rich foods kills the enzyme benefits to these foods). My recommendations:
Start your meals with a salad and try incorporating a green smoothie in the morning as this will increase enzyme intake.
Limit juicing except for wheatgrass and watermelon juice as it can potentially overtax your digestion system due to the rapid cleansing action of juicing.
Drink smoothies as the blending of the ingredients helps the body clean itself and restores health much quicker than just eating the foods in salad form. By blending foods before eating them, you “predigest” them, making it easier for your body to digest. During the blending process the cell walls expose the important minerals and other nutrients that are encased in the foods making them bio-available to the body without the body doing any work.
Taking a high quality plant based digestive enzyme supplement such as Garden of Life, Enzymedica or Solaray will help with the assimilation of minerals and nutrients. It also preserves the body’s own enzymes which slows the aging process, supports healthy digestion, preserves energy so it can be used to rebuild and replace damaged cells such as the collagen of the skin, as well as enhancing the detox process while alleviating bloating, constipation and gassiness.
Probiotics, such as Garden of Life and Mega Food, have also been proven to show that healthy gut bacteria produce an enzyme that sends signals to make more enzymes, including enzymes to break down food. Probiotics also help with synthesizing B vitamins and improving overall vitamin synthesis which is essential for enzyme function.
Having a healthy digestion process will help preserve enzyme activity so we can absorb minerals and vitamins to maintain a healthy and youthful body! I hope this inspires you to incorporate some of these recommendations into your life!
